Careers
Therapeutic Parents work within the home on either 24 hour or 48 hour shifts, sleeping in. The rota pattern averages 38 hours per week (plus sleep ins).
Our Therapeutic Parents are required to be dedicated to caring and loving children, delivering a therapeutic parenting model of understanding trauma, positive behaviour management, and have reciprocal fun and laughter with children.
Therapeutic Parents are a substitute parent – providing all the care required from bedtime stories, taking to school, cooking and baking, supporting children in hobbies, doing homework, cleaning, engaging friendships and working alongside families, and other professionals.
You will be an integral part of a team, working closely with your fellow Therapeutic Parents, therapists, schools and leisure providers.
A high level of administration is involved in ensuring that the home is compliant in terms of recording of children’s activities, safeguarding and risk assessment.
It requires a great deal of compassion, patience, and empathy. You will need to be resilient, with an acceptance that behaviour is a communication of need, which for the children at Glow is often a communication of fear, lack of trust and powerlessness.
Preferably, prospective therapeutic parents will have child care experience, whether as foster carers, teachers, support workers or youth workers.
